Continued from page 2 of "Do I Really Need A Website?

VI. Final Notes
a). Keep your website updated with both new info and graphics. Update overall site completely every 2 or 3 yrs.

b). Surf the web as often as possible to see what your competition is doing.

c). Do not become complacent with your website. Remember, you spent a good amount of money on it. It is just as important as all other forms of your business advertising.

d). Have a counter on your site to track the number of hits (visitors) to your site.

e). If you have an e-commerce site and are going to advertise with a banner on someone else’ site to have them visit your site, you may have to make an offer on the banner in order to entice a visitor to your site. (I.E. a Freebie this or a freebie that or a discount for saying to you saw the special on their site.)

f). Remember, a bad looking, unattractive site will do more to hurt your business than help it. It is a reflection on your business philosophy. If you don’t even want to spend money on good design for your own business, why would you expect anyone else to buy your product.

g). Above all, unless you have artistic experience, web design experience, computer graphics experience, do not develop the “I can do the updates and maintennance myself and save money. Why pay for it? I'll just buy the software." Not only is the software expensive, but this attitude will produce a look completely different to what the designer envisioned and produced. It will look exactly like 2 people worked on your site. One who is a designer, and the other who isn't.

h). If there still isn't enough information on this page, check your local bookstore for titles such as the "Websites for Dummies" series or any of these other related "for Dummies" series books. They are very helpful and explain many other options in a clear and concise manner.
