Carlos Prado is the guitarist and background vocalist in Rampage and has played in numerous rock and jazz bands in El Paso. Carlos started playing guitar at 10 years old after hearing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show and later Santana's Samba Pa Ti.
His influences include Carlos Santana, late Chicago guitarist -Terry Kath, Doobie Brothers, Mick Box of Uriah Heep, Steve Howe of Yes, Eric Clapton and of course Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and John Petrucci of Dream Theater and pretty much any guitarist that caught his ear.
As you can tell from above, his influences are also as varied as is his album collection which contains music that ranges from country singer/guitaist Lee Roy Parnell and Ricky Skaggs to Jazz albums by George Benson, Lee Ritenour, the Rippingtons to jazz/funk/pop bands like Earth, Wind and Fire and the late Michael Jackson. |
His cd collection also includes new metal as well as grunge and industrial metal by bands the likes of Disturbed, Godsmack, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Dream Theater and the list goes on and on.
Experienced in lots of styles prompted a keyboardist in a previous band to give him the nickname of "Mr. Tones" as Carlos was able to immitate the tones of any guitarist in whatever song style the band was playing at the time. That coupled with a Boss ME-70, Roland GP-8 effects processor give him the freedom to research any tone he's looking for. At one time he was even considered the "loudest" guitarist in El Paso.
Carlos has also played in jazz bands that have opened for major recording jazz artists’ such as Tito Puente, Hiroshima and George Benson. He has also had the pleasure of playing in 2 groups with local jazz saxophonist, Mike Hamilton, local drummer Roland Guerrero and keyboard wizzard Kevin Casteel.
